If you've ever tried chopping a disco loop or programming a four-on-the-floor groove entirely with a mouse, you know how much feel gets lost in translation. AlphaTheta's new SLAB controller — built in collaboration with Serato — aims to put that tactile element back into electronic music production.
What it is
SLAB is a Serato Studio-native MIDI pad controller created by AlphaTheta in close collaboration with Serato, putting sampling, sequencing, and performance directly into the producer's hands. For house producers especially, that's a meaningful shift — house music lives and dies on groove, swing, and the feel of a sample chop, and SLAB is designed around exactly that workflow. AlphaTheta

Why it matters
The standout hook: as soon as SLAB is plugged in, the full version of Serato Studio unlocks for free, removing the usual paywall between hardware and software. It also doubles as a controller for Serato Sample and an accessory for Serato DJ Pro, with a MIDI mode that switches into custom mappings for Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Logic Pro — so producers aren't locked into one ecosystem. Physically, it's smaller than A4/US Letter size, with a 2-tone gray design and AlphaTheta's signature circular CDJ-style PLAY/REC buttons, making it easy to fit on a desk or take to a friend's studio session
